Dec's attitude and perception and attraction all changed very suddenly near the beginning, and I didn't entirely buy the transition. But that aside I enjoyed it. It was an interesting premise, and I liked them for each other. A feel-good cute ending. ( ) In some ways, this novel doesn't get off to a good start - it's quite slow in the first 1/3 and the grief around the death of Rhett, and aftermath. It's a timelessly heartbreaking story, full of immoveable sorrow for the family. But the second half, when Julian and Deacon find each other, is a heart stopping love story, which saves them both, especially Deacon, who is narrated to perfection as usual by Teddy Hamilton - at least I think that is who narrates him - I wish that was made clearer by the audiobook makers. Tim Paige is also one of my favourite narrators.. The 2 MCs both are very good at finding the right words to express the ocean of their feelings. Wow, if only we were all so articulate! They are ridiculous. This is my third Marley Valentine novel and each one has been a great and deep love story, surrounded by tragedy. Like a rising phoenix from tragedy's ashes. I don't know whether I'm being manipulated by easy shots, but gosh, all the emotion Valentine injects into her writing works. These novels are romantic and full of revelation. I can see below that my fellow readers felt the same way - about how powerfully this book impacted our emotions - and I agree that the epilogue set 4 years later was brilliant - a lovely counterpoint to the heaviness of the journey we took. I adore this book. People are realistically portrayed as flawed and complicated in their grief and family conflicts. I love both MCs and Wade, and just love this book. There were a couple of things hinted at that were never explained which annoys me, but they were minor. I loved the characters and the family drama seemed real, not OTT, but enough to add depth to the story and was resolved satisfactorily. There's a bonus epilogue available too that was also great to read, set 4 years later. Without you is a wonderful love story. After the loss of someone they both love they find themselves helping each other heal and to go on living. The relationship was surprising and unlikely for a number of reasons. Marley Valentine wrote a complicated couple with a complicated journey so beautifully. It was performed to perfection by Teddy Hamilton and Tim Paige. Individually they are each almost always and automatic buy for me but together, they were magic. I've added this one to my 'must listen again' folder and I recommend this one for purchase. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Tragedy brought us together, but something stronger made me want to stay. Julian was the boy next door. My brother's best friend, he fit with my family in ways I never could. While he and Rhett went on to play house, I left the only life I knew, desperate for a fresh start. Until everything changed. Heartache came along, and the aftermath of my brother's death was here to stay. I was now face to face with Julian more than I ever wanted to be. Being around him brought up all my insecurities, forced me to deal with hard truths, and conjured up feelings I had no business entertaining. He wasn't the man I thought I knew. He was complex and layered, and inherently beautiful in all the ways I'd never noticed. Not on another person. Not on another man. Not until him. Contains mature themes.
