I enjoyed this romance with a little bit of mystery in it. I won this set of books, Exclusive Jewels-Vol 2, and I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given it a 4.5*rating. This is not for the under 18 readers. Apparently several women were looking for husbands except a widow who was pursued anyway. This story had a little intrigue and a variety of characters that certainly stirred this pot. I'm just surprised that type of ending didn't come sooner. ( )

A two star review means that I found this story, "just okay", but "I did not like it" is probably more accurate. I did not care for the author's writing style and the story just dragged on for me. I don't know that I can adequately explain, but there was a great deal of repetition and I couldn't wait for it to end. The hero was called a "nabob" about 50,000 times and the villain called him "the Usurper" several times and that really got on my nerves. Add in a heroine who constantly jumped to the wrong conclusions about the hero, throughout the book, even though she was supposedly in love with him.
I wouldn't recommend this book, except possibly for a drinking game using "nabob"- Do they still do that?

The Bride Wore Blue was exactly what I look for in an historical romance - a strong-willed woman who has a problem beyond her control; a handsome, honorable man who adores said woman; siblings or parents who need to be taken care of; another woman who has ties, or wants to have ties to said handsome man, and a villain who has set his sights on the strong-willed woman.

Ms. Bolen uses these elements so well that the story moves quickly and her characters are so sympathetic you must cheer for them. In this case you knew that Thomas Moreland deserved to win Felicity's heart because she was as honorable as he. Now with just a good romance a book would be just another tired romance, Ms. Boone must realize this for the development of the villainous Colonel Gordon drove the story to a satisfying conclusion.

*** This part of the review has nothing to do with the story but the books previews for the next books in the series. Two of those books made me not want to read the series because I don't like What happens to two of the characters. Very frustrating because I really liked this book. ( )
