Excellent beginning to a series. Definitely looking forward to her sequel ( )

I had a little trouble getting into it, but it was still a good book. I'm interested to hear more about the Teek and happens to the main characters, so I'll pick up the next one. ( )

Mixed emotions.
As I love everything connected to mythologies and legends very much, I had high hopes for the "Black Sun" - with all that pre-Colombian background and stuff. And it delivered, it really did! The worldbuilding is magnificent, very fresh, and unique (although somehow, especially in the beginning parallels with Japanese culture and mythology came into my mind - which is not a bad thing :D), characters are fun and relatable. And I'm a huge fan of crows, so the book was a treat indeed.
Two 'buts'.
The first and smaller one was the ending, which was really abrupt and in the middle of the action - yes, I know that Tolkien and Martin and million others are done it before, but it was still maddening. Indeed, mostly because I was enjoying the book so much, I admit.
The second 'but' is bigger. it's one of the four main characters, Sun Priest Naranpa. She's so annoyingly, maddeningly stupid. And it's not believable, at least I do not believe it to be possible. If a young woman from a really low background grows up in the temple from a early age and rises to the top of the hierarchy, she can't be so ignorant of all intrigues going on, especially if the head of the temple, the Sun Preast, is also the head of the all society. Impossible.
But, as I said, It's no so big a thing. Book is still good and can't wait for a sequel! ( )

Note to self: Do not start a series when the next book is yet to be published. I have to wait years?!?!? ( )

A fantastic opening to what promises to be a grand series. Rich world-building, intriguing characters. And a far-too-long wait for the next book. ( )
