More like Charles Martin than Nicholas Sparks, this tells the story of two people getting their life back on track.
Well told story with a interesting plot. ( )

Not my usual genre, so I was pleasantly surprised. A romantic, uplifting and heartwarming tale that hits the right spot when you need it. ( )

An Unfinished Story. Boo Walker. 2020. When Claire was clearing out her old house, the “forever home,” her late husband, David called it; she found part of a novel David was working on when he was killed by a drunk driver. With the manuscript she also found a picture of David with a teenage boy she didn’t recognize. She knew David was working on a novel, but he didn’t want her to read it until he’d finished. As she read the chapters, she realized how good it was and decided she’ find someone to finish the novel to honor David. She picked Whitaker, a local writer who’d become famous after writing one novel. Even though he was in a “dry spell” and questioning his ability to write another book, Whitaker had no desire to finish someone else’s work. However he was intrigued and finally agreed to read David’s manuscript. Naturally Claire and Whitaker are attracted to each other, but much deal with their own emotional demons. They decide they will try to find the unidentified boy in the story. There are really no surprises here, but a nice little romance. Lots of information about foster care in Florida. ( )

"An Unfinished Story" was a touching, heartwarming novel which I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked both Whitaker and Claire, and felt extremely sorry for them as they struggled with the losses they were both facing. Together the journey to finish what Claire's husband left unfinished and in doing so, reconnected with life and love.

Although the novel started slowly, once Whitaker took up Claire's offer the plot improved dramatically and I was soon totally invested in the story. A gentle read dealing with grief, regret, forgiveness and acceptance, "An Unfinished Story" was a lovely read. ( )
