The illustrations are adorably done, although they fail to add dimension to the story. The section at the end featuring actual bug science is my favorite part of the book.I received a copy of this book free from the publisher for review. Questa recensione è stata scritta per Recensori in anteprima di LibraryThing. This book shares an important message about how it is okay to love bugs. Children naturally are interested in bugs when young but slowly loose that interest as they get older. That "EWWW" and "gross" response begins to replace the early fascination. I love that this book encourages children to stay interested but, specifically, that girls can be interested into bugs too (and science)! More broadly, this book is a story that shows how it is important to be yourself, a message that never gets old, and to not let the interests of your peers change your passions. The illustrations are beautiful and detailed. This is a perfect book to share with school-aged children. Sophia Spencer has loved bugs ever since a butterfly landed on her shoulder--and wouldn't leave!--at a butterfly conservancy when she was only two-and-a-half years old. In preschool and kindergarten, Sophia was thrilled to share what she knew about grasshoppers (her very favorite insects), as well as ants and fireflies . . . but by first grade, not everyone shared her enthusiasm. Some students bullied her, and Sophia stopped talking about bugs altogether. When Sophia's mother wrote to an entomological society looking for a bug scientist to be a pen pal for her daughter, she and Sophie were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response--letters, photos and videos came flooding in. Using the hashtag BugsR4Girls, scientists tweeted hundreds of times to tell Sophia to keep up her interest in bugs--and it worked! Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
