This book is a great step-by-step guide to help even the most amateur mechanics figure out what's wrong with their brakes and fix it. Importantly, there are tons of very clear color pictures that will help you through the process. The book covers just about everything you'd need , regardless of what type of car you have - disc brakes, drum brakes, parking brakes, hydraulics, and ABS. For 95% of people, just the basics of changing your brake pads would be enough to make this book worth while. A quick read of the chapter and an hour or so of work will save you hundreds of dollars. I received this book as an early review. I have worked on my own cars since I started driving, about 40 years ago and did not first think I would benefit from the read. This was also my first CarTech Workbench series so I did not have any expectations when I started. I found myself pleasantly surprised! Not only was the information presented very well but it was accompanied by pictures and diagrams that I thought would be beneficial to any level of mechanic, amateur or advanced. The manual explained different types of systems, components of each system, brake fluids, and troubleshooting. In my estimation, anyone that wants to try working on their own brakes, or just want to better understand brake repair so they are more knowledgeable if they are bringing it to a shop for repair, should consider purchasing this manual. I do not think they would be disappointed and it will stop the mystery surrounding this important system. (I got this book for my husband and he is the one who reviewed it.) ( )

for Librarything early readers: I found this book really informative. It well covered the build-up to modern brake systems and even the near future of same. Despite my many years of experience I learned a few clever tricks to make things easier, as well as learning to anticipate what I will see moving ahead. A really informative and practical supplement to model specific manuals. A must have for anyone interested in what goes into doing "Brake Repair" properly. ( )

This was a very thorough book for it's small size. This book is for anyone. I had next to zero knowledge of brakes and this book brought me through the history and implementation of various braking systems. The step by step guides are perfect and readably understandable. The details on the tools you will need is also provided. ( )

Brake Repair How to Diagnose, Fix, or Replace Your Car's Brakes Step by Step is another wonderful addition to the Cartech Workbench How to Series. These books provide everything you need to know about your car's brake systems. Filled with 100's of full color photos and step by step instructions this book makes a great addition to any car enthusiasts collection. Highly recommend. ( )
