I can count on her domestic thrillers to come through whenever I'm craving a few hours at the edge of my seat. This is my fifth one by her in about 6 weeks, and I've enjoyed them all. I would place this one in the top two (along with The Arrangement). The theme of this book especially resonates, as I'm fascinated by stories that explore characters who are able to conceal/deceive/disguise their actions and history from everyone in their world. I was able to borrow this as an audiobook on hoopla and this is a quick listen (five hours) with solid audio narration by Hayden Bishop and Tim Paige. "If I could go back and tell myself anything, it would be to run. The second I had the chance, I should've run." Well, she's done it again!! I am going to make it my life's mission to have one, just one, of these plots figured out before the end. I'm surely setting myself up for failure. I have dubbed this author the "Queen of Twists and Turns" and with every single book she releases, that crown gains another jewel. Holy Hannah this was good! It's funny how one three-letter word, said enough times, can change your life. Yes. Sometimes the result is wonderful - a first date, a first kiss, a first.... (well, you know), a marriage. And sometimes, it can lead you down a path of secrecy, deceit, adultery, and..... murder? It's the latter that adds phrases like "we shouldn't be doing this", "don't tell anyone", and "what did I just do?" to your vocabulary. This is what it was like for Hannah and Mark. Their first set of "YES" were blissful and happy. The second set is where it all went wrong. So very wrong. I hate that I can't figure this author out and predict where she is taking her stories. Yet,at the same time, I'm so glad I can't because, what would be the fun of that? It would be like opening your presents before Christmas or your Birthday, and then being disappointed when the big day arrived and there's nothing to open. I've read thrillers where 1/2 way through the book I have a pretty good idea of whodunit, and I'm usually right (not tooting my own horn here). They're good stories, but sometimes predictable. With Ms. Modglin? The ending is always a never-saw-it-coming, shocker. Every. Single. Time. Just say yes, and grab this one!! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
When Hannah meets Mark during a chance encounter, she finds herself saying yes to him for the first time. With an immediate first date, the two begin a whirlwind romance. Soon, Hannah is saying yes to everything Mark asks of her. These decisions quickly alter the world she once knew. Within months, they become inseparable, and she says yes to moving, marriage, and unbeknownst to her, a new existence filled with secrets, lies, and questions Hannah never thought she'd have to ask her husband. When she discovers Mark's darkest secret, her life begins to unravel, and she is forced to face her own hidden truths. Hannah worries she may be in too deep to protect them, to help Mark, or to do what she fears she might have to-escape. Someone is lying. Someone is dead. Who is telling the truth in this twisted domestic thriller, and when the police come knocking, the most important question is: whose lie turned deadly?
