This series...

I am not sure I would have loved this series as much if I had heard it rather than read it. There are a lot of characters to keep track of and I think the story itself would have lost its luster. HOWEVER, I am reading it so I can see the words and keep track, thus, making it amazing. I can tell by the attention to detail that this story/series was a labor of love for the author. This author is always known for giving detail but this series is fantastic at the details in regard to world-building. Much like the fantasy land series, this one makes everything feel real, when in fact, it is otherworldly. That is a feat.

I love these characters, as they traverse the unknown in regard to their potential love matches whilst still saving the world from the beast. I couldn't ask for anything more, especially from this author. For those on the fence, take the chance. It takes a little bit to get into the story because there are so many different characters but once that is over the story takes off with amazing new characters and some visits from some old favorites. ( )

There is so much goodness here but let me start with a recommendation. The Rising series can be read stand alone but there are several crossovers with the Fantasyland series. While not necessary, reading the Fantasyland series first will give deeper understanding when those characters make their appearance.

While the first book in this series was all about beginnings and introductions, this second book is all about falling in love, connections, conspiracy and murder.

I LOVED this book. While it's challenging keeping up with five couples falling in love and the Rising conspiracy, Ashley made it almost effortless this time.

Each couple faces their own challenges and misunderstandings but still finds a way to understanding and love, despite their differences. It was magical, sensual and endearing. However there is an ugly side as evil tries to unleash the Beast and Ashley pulls no punches. Some of those scenes may be difficult for some readers due to violence, abuse and sexual practices.

Be sure to have The Dawn of the End ready as this book ends on a cliffhanger.

Chu of the Trusted and Serena of the Nadirii are not one of the premier couples but they play a part of the story.
