Fun parody that inserts a bunch of teen series heroes and heroines, not all of whom I'd ever read. Cannot recommend to Cherry Ames fans, though. ( ) I read a lot of Nancy Drew books when I was a kid. But I also read a ton of other books in the genre. This book was such a treat. Trixie Belden, Cherry Ames, the Hardy Boys and so many others make appearances. I would have been fine skipping most of the other "boys" mystery heroes with the exception of Encyclopedia Brown... and I was sad that my favorite Grace Harlowe didn't make an appearance. In any case I thought this book was a hoot. The early chapters in particular are hilarious in their constant use of the same language as in the Drew Books and the characterization of Nancy is really funny. The middle chapters drag a bit but then I think it finishes strong. Highly recommended for anyone who read a lot of these books. This novel is a hilarious parody of youth fiction mystery novels such as Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. Quick read, could have been better written, but very entertaining to read about the various aging teen sleuths such as Frank Hardy and Nancy Drew. It is fun to see Nancy appear in various episodes in history as well. Quite funny parody of the Nancy Drew character and an explanation of her life after the books we all remember. All the teenage sleuths are here, often dealing with unexpected crises, heading to war, etc. Nancy's endless love for a different beau runs throughout, but I'm not going to reveal who it is! Good quick chuckle for those of us who grew up on these stories. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

HTML: America's favorite girl detective is back to set the record straight. According to our titian-haired heroine, she was not in fact a fictional character, but an intrepid real-life sleuth who investigated some of the twentieth century's biggest mysteries. And the famous series she starred in was not cooked up by a team of writers, but plagiarized from her exploits by her nosy college roommate Carolyn-who, not surprisingly, got a whole lot wrong. Here are the daring escapes, brilliant hunches, and dependable stock characters, including interlopers from numerous other beloved series, that have delighted generations of fans. And here, also, are the details of teen-sleuth life that you never saw: the secret romances, reckless driving, minor drinking problems, political action, and domestic drama that have, up till now, remained hidden from these brave detectives' adoring public. I can't remember when I've laughed aloud so frequently during the reading of a book...A wonderful send-up of the Nancy Drew novels.-Nancy Pearl, NPR .Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
