It's about love and family. I think most women will find they connect with one of the three main characters. The story plot isn't difficult to figure out but it's definitely a page turner. I enjoyed the personalities of the grandmother Rose, mother Joan, and granddaughter Rachel (aka Rocky) and how they related to each other and how this one dress was personal to them in many ways. I especially loved Rose who basically took over the atelier in Paris in the 1950s and how they loved her designs and especially what was to be The Grace Kelly Dress. The only thing that perplexed me is that when Joan broke off her engagement and got married 5 years later, it never mentioned who he was and never was named either. While I was interested (for the most part) in what happened to all three characters, I didn't particularly like them. It is love at first sight for the seamstress, Rose, who falls head over heels for an engaged man. Her fight to stay away is not successful. Still, her experience as a seamstress makes her the most interesting. Joanie, in the 80s, is engaged to the "perfect" gentleman, but she's more enamored with the idea of marriage than the man she's marrying. In fact, when we meet her, she is constantly forgetting about the poor man. Her quest to live up to her sister's memory takes her from her comfort zone and she finds she doesn't know who she is. Rocky, the modern feminist, doesn't want to wear her mother's wedding dress but doesn't feel like she can tell her mother the truth. She came across as your stereotypical modern-day feminist who doesn't want anything to do with anything girly or sweet. None of them really stand out and I doubt I will remember them long. An interesting story but nothing spectacular. I received an ARC through Goodreads First Reads program and am voluntarily reviewing. All opinions expressed are my own.
