I like where the author is coming from and I agree with her thoughts on these issues. But I think she has too high hopes for her son lol And the readers, since the exhortation in the letters are not only directed at her son but also in a way at her readers. I an inspired by the direction it is taking, but a cohort as she describes in the last letter can only exist if every single member of that cohort lives out the exhortation, including her son. This doesn't seem realistic, and I think the bar should be set lower for your cohort when the issue you are navigating is difficult for everyone involved. We need to give each other more grace and be willing to overlook present faults in order to be friends for a long time.
The author recounted some hurtful comments she got as the only black girl growing up in a white evangelical community. It's pretty awful. I'm shocked people can say these hurtful things so mindlessly. Get it together, people!
