Racing to uncover the mystery of several light green-shoe-clad severed feet found floating in the Gulf of Mexico, Agent Pendergast is faced with the most inexplicable challenge of his career in this installment of the #1 NYT bestselling series. A STARTLING CRIME WITH DOZENS OF VICTIMS. Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach--each one with a crudely severed human foot inside. A GHASTLY ENIGMA WITH NO APPARENT SOLUTION. Called away from vacation elsewhere in the state, Agent Pendergast reluctantly agrees to visit the crime scene--and, despite himself, is quickly drawn in by the incomprehensible puzzle. An early pathology report only adds to the mystery. With an ocean of possibilities confronting the investigation, no one is sure what happened, why, or from where the feet originated. And they desperately need to know: are the victims still alive? A WORTHY CHALLENGE FOR A BRILLIANT MIND. In short order, Pendergast finds himself facing the most complex and inexplicable challenge of his career: a tangled thread of evidence that spans seas and traverses continents, connected to one of the most baffling mysteries in modern medical science. Through shocking twists and turns, all trails lead back to a powerful adversary with a sadistic agenda and who--in a cruel irony--ultimately sees in Pendergast the ideal subject for their malevolent research.… (altro)

Always a good read ( )

Crooked River another Agent Pendergast adventure. Once again Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child have created a story that is believable that holds one's attention from beginning to end. The story of feet in shoes being washed up on a resort island is quite unique. It is an excellent adventure and thus gets five stars in this review. It is highly recommended. ( )

Another fun Pendergast adventure that starts out with a seemingly impossible case that slowly comes together to a climactic finish. From the beginning the strange case - severed feet washing up on a Florida beach - had me hooked, and the usual Preston/Child twist and turns kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next. What I really loved about Crooked River is that Constance makes more than just a passing appearance in the story and has a significant impact on the outcome. Since I love Constance I really enjoyed seeing her more involved in the story. Pendergast is his usual self, and Agent Coldmoon gets to strut some of his own stuff out from under Pendergast's shadow. Crooked River is a very enjoyable mystery with a tiny teaser for the next one!

Pendergast is still in Florida from previous book, on vacation after his last case. His boss, ADC Pickett flew in with a mysterious case and wanted Pendergast to take a "quick look". Hundreds of feet in green rubber shoes were washed ashore which left Pendergast bewildered and took on the case.

Meanwhile, Constance Green seek out a temporary accommodation for them and rented a to be demolished historical Victorian shingle home, rumored to be haunted.

I'm starting to like Special Agent Coldmoon (a lot) and will surely miss him if he's going to be stationed in Colorado! BUT, I also miss Proctor and Riverside Drive... ( )

This was my first Pendergast novel and so I can’t compare it to the many others I know have been written. I was intrigued by the feet and kept trying to figure out where they came from. Could not come up with a plausible explanation. The imagination of these authors continues to amaze me. Well done! ( )
