At her summer internship with one of New York's preeminent fashion magazines, Kira's to-do list includes rounding up models, fetching high-price dry cleaning, and snagging invites to some of the hottest parties in town. This is meant for teens, but I never let that stop me. It takes place in upscale Manhattan, in the fashion magazine world. Kira gets a coveted summer internship at fictional magazine Skirt, and deals with mean girls, cute guys, wannabes, coworkers, and her nemesis Daphne who happens to be the owner's daughter. We called such people "nepotees" at my old job. Kira's hard work and long hours may go unrewarded, while Daphne takes long lunches and leaves early to get ready for evenings at the hottest clubs. Or will Kira triumph in the end? (Well, I know what happens, but don't want to spoil it.) ( )

SUMMER INTERN is definitely going to be the summer beach read of 2007! When I first picked up this book I thought to myself, "Here we go again with the whole THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA theme!" No way! These books have their similarities but are much different, too! There is scandal, mystery, fashion, mean girls, and a really nice pair of Blahnik shoes involved! What girl doesn't want to read a book like that?

Kira gets her dream job at the high profile fashion magazine, Skirt. But did Cinderella get Prince Charming without a few bumps in the road? Uh, no! During the course of the book Kira even meets her own Prince Charming at a club--or at least she thinks she does.

Daphne is a fellow intern at the magazine, but she just happens to be the daughter of the owner of the entire corporation! Kira stays late, works very hard, knows a lot about fashion, and is super nice to everyone--but Daphne doesn't like her because she is a threat to the real dream job...being the intern of the editor-in-chief of the magazine!

After finding out who wins the coveted internship, things get worse. At the end of the book something ties the whole story together, the mean girls get what they deserve, and something VERY unexpected happens! You will just have to read this amazing novel to find out the rest of the story that is also about more than finding the perfect pair of shoes for an upcoming cover! ( )

When Kira Parker wins a contest to be a summer intern at a famous New York fashion magazine, she thinks she will have the summer of her life. Little does she know that she will be competing with the magazine owner's daughter for not just the coveted job of editor in chief's assistant, but her boyfriend's attention as well. Despite her hard work, Kira loses out on the coveted assistant position. She still has the summer of her life though enjoying New York and meeting new people, and in the end her hard work does pay off. Funny and lighthearted, this book touches upon some sensitive issues and is probably best for mature readers. ( )
