It is April 1852. Crucial documents belonging to the eminent Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel have either been stolen or disturbed at Brunel's London home. Brunel engages the services of renown private detective Harry Brooke, a decorated veteran of the British Army Afghan campaign of 1842. Brooke travels by train from Paddington to Bristol to meet Brunel but at the notorious 'Swindon Break' railway station Brooke is attacked by an unknown assailant. There is a violent scuffle resulting in the assailant's death and, although Brooke is always prepared for such eventualities, there remained several unfathomable questions. Did Brooke's assailant commit suicide rather than risk being caught and questioned? How did the assailant know Brooke was travelling on that train? And at that time?Clues are few and the stakes are high. Brooke must uncover the identity of the 'dark forces' which lurk to destroy Brunel's most ambitious scheme yet, a vision as yet unconsidered. Gripping fiction based around true events: Brunel's most creative vision - travel from London to New York on one single ticket. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
