With lyrical prose and striking verse, beloved poet Nikita Gill uses the history of Ancient Greece and beyond to explore and share the stories of the mothers, warriors, creators, survivors, and destroyers who shook the world. In pieces that burn with empathy and admiration for these women, Gill unearths the power and glory of the very foundations of mythology and culture that have been too-often ignored or pushed aside. Complete with beautiful hand-drawn illustrations, Gill's poetry and stories weave old and forgotten tales of might and love into an empowering collection for the modern woman.… (altro)

This is a collection of poems, each a short vignette of a Goddess, monster or mortal. Some tell of their nature, others of specific instances. Some even take the immortals and put them in a mortal world, how would they cope, how would it have mellowed them. They are variable in length and there is a requirement to be fairly up on your mythology, or some of the names and back stories will be missing (a couple threw me, I admit). The best are those torn between two opposing forces, Persephone, for example. It was noticeable that the monsters are all female - difficult women seem to have been vilified for all time.
I listened to this, I'd quite like to see a copy, I think it might be interesting to see how it is arranged on the page. ( )

“Every love does not have to be made of desire. Some loves are kept for the people who stand by you through everything. Some soulmates are sisters not lovers. Some loves are for those who give you hope. And some for the strength, for wisdom, for dreams.”

“Why be a half-finished poem in some forgotten poet’s story, when one can be an odyssey in and of herself, part magic, part villain, part Goddess, part lover.” ( )

Spring 2021 (May);

Oh. My. God.

I don't even know how to book this book into words. It was amazing from beginning to end. I was so deeply in love with nearly every poem. The Hera-in-The-Present & the Hestia-Demeter one made me tear up in the middle of my work, because they were such a reward of taking back your power, love & abuse & strength aren't defined by other people or the world, but yourself. I just. There's so much here. I want to buy everyone I know a copy. I already have two people who are reading it since I finished it. ( )

Like a peek behind the veil of the celebrity personnas of Gods and Goddesses of Greek mythology. Would love to see these turned into a series of plays or a video series. ( )
