"Round and round she goes, blonde pigtails flying, her high-pitched giggle catching on the wind. But as the ride slows to a stop, her seat is suddenly empty. Little Lucy is gone... When seven-year-old Lucy Ross is snatched from the carousel in Denton city park, Detective Josie Quinn joins the frantic search. She's the one who finds Lucy's sparkly butterfly backpack abandoned by the ticket booth, a note with a devastating message stuffed inside: answer your phone, or your sweet little darling will die... The next day, Lucy's parents are filled with hope when they pick up a call which they think is from their babysitter-- but instead it's a chilling male voice on the line. Josie races to the babysitter's small apartment only to find her lifeless body in a tangle of sheets on her bed. Josie is faced with the most high-stakes case of her career as each new phone call from someone connected to the family ends with the shocking discovery of another body. This twisted killer wants revenge, and he won't stop until the Ross family are in pieces... Something is telling Josie that Lucy's parents aren't giving her the whole truth, but digging deeper into their lives will force her to confront a life-changing secret of her own. Does Josie have what it takes to crack this case? She has no choice if she's going to bring Lucy home alive..."--Provided by publisher.… (altro)

I had a hard time getting into the book. I always finish a book and I did this one as well but it didn’t get much better. The storyline was good but it was missing something. I just couldn’t get into the characters. ( )

Detective Josie Quinn was babysitting her friend's son when Lucy Ross was kidnapped from the same park. Josie is assigned the case when she finds Lucy's sparkly butterfly backpack and the kidnapper's note. One by One everyone who knew the Ross family is killed along with another note from the kidnapper, After questioning Lucy's [parents, Josie realizes they aren't telling the truth The more she investigates her parents, Lucy life is in further danger.

I received this book from NetGalley for free in exchange for an honest review. It was a good story. I liked the steps he investigation team took in finding the killer, especially the witness the thought was the killer. I only had a problem with the wife, her testimony, and she didn't pass the lie detector test. Yet the team did not look into her past earlier. The parallel between Ross's relationship with Lucy and Josie facing a possible pregnancy. Overall it kept you in suspense. ( )

In this installment, Josie meets a man who works for her father at the park. Minutes later, his little girl goes missing from the carousel. Josie and her team, along with the FBI race to find her. The abductor one by one kills anyone close to the little girls mother. This is one of my favorite series and I anxiously wait for the next book. ( )

Detective Josie Quinn is at the playground one day and hears panicked parents screaming that they cannot find their seven-year-old, Lucy Ross. Lucy and her mother are on the merry-go-round, and Lucy's father is off the the side, busy on his cell phone.

Josie starts searching right away and quickly spots Lucy's backback, which was described by her frantic mother. Shockingly, there is a message inside of the backpack, and it says for them to answer their phone, or else their daughter might die..

Both Josie and her team, as well as the FBI search high and low for Lucy. With eerie phone calls and tragic murders, hope is something difficult to come by. Will Lucy's parents ever see her again? As things progress, secrets are revealed when it comes to the parents, but there is also something that personally affects Josie.

I have read most of the books in this series so I am quite familiar with Josie, her team, and her family. Although they are all in this book, the focus is on the case at hand. So, those who have not read the previous titles should have no problem finding themselves quit engaged in this story. Her Silent Cry was a one-sitting read that kept my interest from the very beginning, and the ending definitely made me catch my breath! I cannot wait to see Josie in action again.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion. ( )

In this sixth instalment of Regan’s Josie Quinn series a child is abducted in a rather complex way and more “surprises” await Josie and her team during the investigation because not everything is as it looks at the beginning...

At least it’s not like it looks to Josie or anyone on her team because very early on there is a horrible give-away as to the reasons of the abduction which made me see a lot of the things to come right from the start. That was a huge let-down and while there’s still a lot of suspense, it severely detracted from the potential this book showed.

This is especially disappointing for me as I’ve really enjoyed “following” Josie during her cases so far. While the books in this series never had much depth and were at no point intellectually challenging, they were suspenseful, often surprising and never dull.

Compared to other cases, though, this one – while not exactly dragging on – isn't quite as fast-paced. All the more so if one considers the tumultuous events of the previous book.

What’s missing as well are the actual characters on Josie’s team: While Noah, Gretchen, Mettner, Lamay and Chitwood, are all there, they mostly seem to be lacking their earlier personalities. For some reason I don’t really understand Noah is still injured and while he was an idiot during the previous book, now he’s a softie. Gretchen hardly ever gets into the limelight; Chitwood, Josie’s boss, isn’t his usual abrasive self either and I had to look up the others as they were unrecognisably shallow.

There’s hardly anything going on in Josie’s private life and the one potentially major development that could have become great limps away whimpering because Regan didn’t have the courage to go through with it.

All in all, while this is not a bad book in itself, it’s just a disappointment as I’ve come to expect more from Regan. It’s a lukewarm instalment in this series that can be skipped without really missing anything.
