This was such a turnaround from the last two books in the series, which I ended up not finishing and skim reading. In Moon Demon, we're back to Vanessa who started out the series. When I was a young reader, Vanessa was my second favorite character. But during this reread, she's become my favorite. In Moon Demon, Vanessa is feeling neglected by her friends and stifled by her good-girl reputation. She meets an alluring young man, Hector, at a place where girls can make a few bucks by dancing with men. And it kicks off this whole drama. The romance between Vanessa and Hector is hot and exciting, even though you know how it's going to end. Michael is still in the picture, so there's a bit of a triangle. Stanton shows up as a dark aide. And basically we're just waiting to find out how bad Vanessa is finally gonna let herself be. The book is super page-turny, though the ending let me down a bit. The villain in this book was a refreshing opponent in that all of the goddesses skills were useless against him. He was a formidable opponent. But the way he was defeated was really anticlimactic. Also, out of all the romantic leads in this book and the series, Michael is the most boring and he's been presented as Vanessa's endgame from the start. So the romantic conclusion to this book was definitely meh. Overall though, this book was a very pleasant return to form and has me looking forward to continuing the series. ( )

Vanessa is getting closer to her 16th birthday but feels she is not able to really express herself. She is always the good one who makes the right choices, wears the right clothes and dates the right boys. When she meets Hector she lets her wild, darker side out to play.

Girls have been going missing from a club where men go to dance with girls for money so the five friends go undercover to investigate. That is where Vanessa meets Hector. She is jealous of the attention her best friend Catty is giving to the newest member of their group Tianna and wants to do something different so she dances with him and gives him her number. It seems that it is a demon taking the girls who have disappeared but they they can escape him by saying no and realising who he is before he takes them.

One night Catty appears from the future to warn Vanessa about something, but she is snatched away before she can deliver her message. From the time tunnel comes a flame which Vanessa touches and it marks her with a henna like pattern. Maggie (their gugardian) knows this demon well and says there is no way to defeat him as he is perfect, seems like she may be connected to him in some way.

Another fast paced installment in the series. I like Vanessa and I am glad she realises she doesn't have to be perfect to be liked by others. I can understand her feelings towards Tianna and I think there will continue to be tension between them as the series progresses. ( )

It’s interesting to see a different side to Vanessa, and Maggie as well. Overall, not quite as interesting as the first book about Vanessa, but a new insight into her character. ( )

“Moon Demon” was written by Lynne Ewing and is two hundred and eighty nine pages long. This book is about Vanessa Cleveland a girl blessed with the ability to become invisible. She is a Daughter of the Moon, along with Catty, Serena, and Jimena. Lately Vanessa has been feeling cut off from her friends, and she's not sure why. It doesn't help matters much that her sixteenth birthday is coming up meaning she is one year closer to making the most important decision of her life. That’s why she is feeling so down! The transition involves the decision of committing to being a goddess forever, or resigning oneself to being human. Vanessa's birthday is not the only thing bothering her. She is desired to break free from her good-girl image. The opportunity to do so manifests itself in the appearance of Hector-a dark and mysterious stranger. Hector is obviously drawn to Vanessa and she does not withdraw away from him. Around him she can be whomever she chooses.
Is Hector who he says he is, or is he a part of the powerful Atrox? This story is predictable and does not hold many surprises. The reader knows who Hector is simply by reading the prologue. Teens, however, will relate to the plot that deals with issues such as relationships, friendship, and feelings of loneliness. ( )
