The Civilian Conservation Corps was a federal program that operated from 1933 to 1942. It existed in all states, and its purpose was to assist young men in supporting their families by working to renew our natural resources. Most of the work of the CCC dealt with soil conservation, drought control, flood prevention, and the planting of trees. The majority of people know about the work the CCC did in our State Parks, but in Iowa, over seventy-five percent of the work projects dealt with helping farmers to renew the soil. The author has connected with more than sixteen men who were in the CCC and were willing to share their stories. This is the second book in the series documenting the CCC work in Iowa.
