On a trip to visit his friend’s aunts house, Andy Russell finds himself in a whole lot of trouble, none of which is his fault. In my opinion this book is a must read for young readers. This is because the characters are well developed and believable, the language is engaging, and the plot keeps a good pace. Andy Russell is a young boy who is curious about the world and always finds himself in some kind of trouble. He is very relatable to any boy between the ages of 7-10. It makes the book more interesting for the students because they can see themselves in the book. The writing of the book is engaging because its fun. The things Andy will say or do will make anyone smile. The language is light hearted and fun. For example, the very first few pages will have you smiling, “ Andy kissed the door handle. ‘Your hand is very cold,’ Andy said. ‘But thank you very much for letting me kiss it.’” Although the book is not written in first person, we are still able to see what Andy is thinking which also hooks the reader and brings them in. Being able to see what the character is thinking plays a very important role in drawing a reader in. It also adds to the story and character development. For example, when Aunt Mandy complements Andy on his good etiquette, Adler lets us see into Andy’s thoughts by including it in the story. Andy’s internal response is “Detective Andy is a gentleman, a real gentleman.” By including his thoughts, we see who Andy is. Lastly, the plot is very engaging because it flows in a good pace. There was no part in the story where I felt that the story dragged on. There was always something constantly going on, whether it was Andy’s thoughts, Jason’s mysterious actions, or the day’s activities. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
