The book, "Thief of Dreams", is about a 13 year old boy named Martin being left at home for a month with his long lost nomadic Uncle Lawrence. Martin's parents had a business trip that they needed to go on and picked his father's brother, Uncle Lawrence, to watch him. Martin has only met his Uncle Lawrence once before so on the first night Martin asks him a lot of questions. After Uncle Lawrence got settled in, he left somewhere and Martin passed Uncle Lawrence's room and saw one of his boxes. Martin opened the box and found a set of third generation night vision goggles. Martin thought that was very odd to have so he began keeping a good eye on Uncle Lawrence. Martin went to school the next day and went to the computer area, where all the unpopular kids went for lunch. He met a kid named Wendell there who would become his good friend. Martin continues to investigate Uncle Lawrence's stuff and finds a piece off fabric which looks like it is from a wet suit. After dinner, Uncle Lawrence routinely disappears mysteriously somewhere. One afternoon Uncle Lawrence came into Martin's room and asked if Martin wanted to go to the mall and play at the arcade. After being at the arcade, Martin ran into his psychologist that his parents had for him so they could concentrate on work. Martin saw how Dr.Rodriguez liked Uncle Lawrence and Uncle Lawrence liked her back. On Christmas Eve, Uncle Lawrence wrote a note to Martin wishing him a Merry Christmas and then left again. Martin hid in the garage until Uncle Lawrence returned with a black bag which he put down near where Martin was hiding. Martin quickly got up and opened the bag that had pool chemicals and a bag of jewelry with a note of initials and different times. Martin went to his room and began to research. The initials were people's names and the times were the time that the alarms turned on. Martin spent a lot of time reading the reports and how there was no clues of the thief. Martin couldn't sleep when he was really sure that Uncle Lawrence was the thief. Martin confronted his uncle and his uncle explained that he stole all the time because it was the only thing that he was good at. His brother was the favorite and he was not liked as much as a child. At school a day later during lunch time, Martin met up with Wendell and Wendell saw the news that showed Uncle Lawrence got arrested. Martin went to the court to watch the outcome and Uncle Lawrence was sad to see Martin and Dr.Rodriguez there. Later on a nice summer day, Martin and Dr.Rodriguez go to have a picnic with Lawrence at the jail. The next year, Martin and Wendell become great friends and his father begins to spend more time with him.

I like this book because it was interesting to me to think what would be like if you knew someone you loved but they were a criminal and should turn them in but you love them so you would be really sad if you turned them in. I also liked this book because it perfectly shows what a real kid would do in that kind of situation. I rated this book three stars because I thought I would enjoy it but I really didn't. I also rated this three stars because I hated the description of Martin the MAIN CHARACTER because there is 100% nothing special about him,he is just boring. My last reason I rated this three stars is because I really expected more when Martin got in the car with Uncle L, everything leads up to that point then they just drive and Martin falls asleep. I would recommend this book to people who like mystery stories. I would also recommend this to any kid under sixth grade. ( )
