I really liked the book I am a Farmer. I think this book gives readers a real look into the life of a farming family from Cameroon. The books plot is well written and talks about important subjects like the impact of kids mocking each other, the importances of farmers, love for school and environmental importance. The characters are well written when good traits and background information like family farming to build to plot. ( )

This picture book-mini-biography of Farmer Tantoh of Cameroon is inspiring! His Grandmother taught him to garden when he was young. This lead him to a lifetime fascination with nature. After a seven year bout with Typhoid, Farmer Tantoh studied in the US. When he returned to Cameroon he used his knowledge about saving rain, finding clean water underground, and growing crops without poisoning the soils and wells to make the water supply safe and to have better crops. However, materials were scare. He promoted the motto, "When you don't have what you want, use what you have". It became a rallying cry for his people to work together! Now many places have clean water and more food.
The illustrations and life lessons are fantastic! This book can be used on many levels and for varied lessons, "just' the story, biography study, environmental issues, geography, weather patterns, and water issues. It's a wonderful book about a marvelous man! ( )
