I read Micheal Lewis all out of order, so I was a bit disappointed with this book. It consists of various sketches or short commentaries or transcribed interviews, rather than a persisting theme. The subject matter is the "greed of the eighties". The tone is moralistic. I think the book fails thus in a way which its companions do not: neither its illustrious predecessor the trnchantly funny "The Liar's Poker" (which shares one aspect with this book i.e. kiss-and-tell of Salomon Brothers) nor its successors, detailing the insightfully researched changes brought about for better or for worse by the e-boom and bust and the advent of the internet, told in "The New New Thing" and in the "Next: The Future Just happened". nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Menzioni
The classic warts-and-all portrait of the 1980s financial scene The 1980s was the most outrageous and turbulent era in the financial market since the crash of '29, not only on Wall Street but around the world. Michael Lewis, as a trainee at Salomon Brothers in New York and as an investment banker and later financial journalist, was uniquely positioned to chronicle the ambition and folly that fueled the decade. Lately I've been thinking about how much society is based on what-you-can-get-away-with.
Michael Lewis seems to have a pretty fair eye for this, and bringing that to bear on Wall Street. ( )
