I picked this up initially for the beautiful art and boy did it deliver! Not only is it beautifully illustrated, this graphic novel has my full attention. It touches on a lot of relevant topics that made me infuriated on the character's behalves. The story takes places world were it's illegal to marry outside of your race or have same sex relationships. Not only that but the government enrolls you into a match making program if you take too long to pair off and are scarily focused on making sure healthy couples reproduce. It's horrible and it makes me want to press on to see how things pan out, with a healthy dose of fantasy and mystery thrown in via Leslie's dreams.

I would definitely recommend! The pretty animal-people are wonderful but don't be fooled, the story and art are both very much 18 . (Just the way I like it~) ( )

Not a bad story with some original styling and concepts which also feel old at the same time. I think the use of the anthropomorphic characters is an interesting twist to explore racial segregation and a little bit about stereotyping. I would say that it can feel a bit overlong sometimes, as pages go by without much happening. For a graphic, that's not a great feature, but it's not bad enough to stop you from reading. ( )

Unnatural is an erotic dystopian mystery comic with anthropomorphized animals and more than one sinister organization. There's a lot going on in the four issues that comprise this first volume, out November 21st.

The book opens with Leslie, a humanoid pig, making out with her pillow while dreaming about having sexytimes with a mysterious white wolf. Then her roommate, a mouse named Trish, wakes her up and makes her go to work. As the story progresses, we learn about the Reproduction Program, a government initiative set up to match people of the same species/race for marriage and procreation. Interspecies relationships are against the law and "unnatural," thus the title of the series.

...

I read this twice, because there's a lot going on that makes sense once you get some of the missing pieces revealed in issue 4, but I'd also really like to talk to other people once you read it. I have theories!

At this point, I feel that anthropomorphic analogies to the prejudices of modern society are really tired and played out, with Zootopia being the best instance of this trope. This series focuses on intolerance between inter-racial (inter-species) and same-sex coupling. There was so much unnecessary exposition about the world and why the oppressive government forces same species to breed, which I skimmed over. Also, for a seemingly queer-positive book, it BURIES THEIR GAYS in like the first chapter. The main character is hot which is why I'm giving this two stars instead of 1. ( )

I kept seeing this pop up on Hoopla and decided to give it a try and after the first chapter I was bored as hell and found the story way to wordy for such a simple overall theme.
Different species aren’t allowed to marry each other, and government regulates this and controls the entire population in regards to this, including having some kind of reproductive program for unmarried species.

Of course the main girl who is a Pig fantasizes about being with a different species, a Wolf, but after deciding to stop reading it, I flipped through more of the pages and the wolf doesn’t even show up till chapter 4 and even then you don’t get to see him.

The first chapter was mostly seeing a nude humanoid pig girl naked and fantasizing about getting it on with a wolf and being caught by her room mate and all the while getting super long lengthy explanations of a simple ass concept of no cross breeding between species.

The art was decent nothing spectacular. ( )
