This is a collection of poetry about a variety of things (ranging from jellyfish to skeletons) that are written almost as if by a child. Children will find the illustrations to be very cute and the onomatopoeia to be very enjoyable, especially for reading aloud. ( ) I'm Gonna Tell Mama I Want An Iguana is a collection of poems about multiple topics. The poems range from being about sad potatoes to a skeleton train. The poems use rhyme and free verse. I was not a huge fan of this book because I feel the poems were randomly selected. I wish they all fell under the same topic, but none of them went together. All the poems are told in the point of view of a young child. I think this makes it a good book for younger children to read. A teacher could use this book to choose a poem to be read to class everyday. The poems in this book will capture the interest of young children with the subjects and illustrations. The form of the poems are free verse and Limerick. Each poem makes you look at the subject through the eyes of a child and the illustrations are mostly of children or animals. I greatly enjoyed this book of poems. Some of them were about things I would not even think about. The illustrations for the poems are so adorable. Lillian Hoban has captured the joy of being a kid in her drawings. The poem I enjoyed the most was “A Little Seed” which I believe is about a little girl who loves spring and wishes that she could be a seed to pop out of the ground. Another poem I liked was “Dog Biscuits”. It is really quite cute, the last stanza in particular made me laugh. It said, “So I wiggled the box, and I juggle out three. I feed one to my dog, and I feed two to me.” This reminded me of how my youngest daughter would try to eat our dog’s bones. YUCK! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
