This book celebrates the discovery of two unpublished manuscriptss by Charlotte Brontë, and reproduces them for the first time. It begins with the remarkable story of how the lost manuscripts were found - saved from shipwreck, sold to a private collector in America - finally making their way back to the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Yorkshire. They were discovered within the pages of a book which had belonged to Charlotte's mother, Maria, and was a treasured possession of the Brontë family. The book includes facsimiles of the two unpublished manuscripts by Charlotte Brontë - on a 77 line poem, and the other a 74 line story, written when she was 17 years old. There are contributions from five leading Brontë specialists explaining the significance of the find, and revealing important new information relating to Charlotte's mother, and her place in the Brontë story.
