Soon to be a major motion picture starring Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson in March 2019! In this moving story that's perfect for fans of John Green's The Fault in Our Stars, two teens fall in love with just one minor complication--they can't get within a few feet of each other without risking their lives. Can you love someone you can never touch? Stella Grant likes to be in control--even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions. The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn't care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he'll turn eighteen and then he'll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals. Will's exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn't feel like safety. It feels like punishment. What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?… (altro)

Stella and Will have lived with CF their entire lives, but the way they and their parents have dealt with their disease have taken very different paths. When they meet in the hospital, (and have to stay five feet apart to make sure they don’t cross infect each other), sparks fly and tragically, they can’t have the one piece of normalcy teenagers their age all enjoy. An informative look at serious chronic illness.

Review for "Five Feet Apart" by Rachel Lippincott, Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐): I am a complete sucker for young adult romance books like this one. It is comparable to The Fault In Our Stars and The Sun is Also a Star for different reasons. I read this book in one day because I was hooked. It was worth the wait and I am so excited for the movie! I recommend this book to anyone who loves YA romance, enjoys books similar to the ones I mentioned earlier, and to anyone who wants to read about love, loss, family, and friendship. ( )

“Five Feet Apart” is a story about two teenagers with cystic fibrosis who are getting treatment at the same hospital. The two have fallen in love but the issue with people with cystic fibrosis is that they must stay at least six feet apart so they don’t get each other bacteria in them (which would cause them to become very sick). Nonetheless, Will and Stella find their aways around the rules and make the best of their time together despite what people were telling them. ( )

Given the hype around this book, I really expected a LOT more from it. I think the movie may be able to save the story, but I have no plans to see it. I hate writing negative reviews, I always say that but there was just so much that irked me about this story.

This novel reads similar to The Fault in Our Stars, not in terms of the plot, but in the way the characters speak, the way they have almost the exact same set up of friendship groups. I don't know if it was to keep this novel in a YA or younger age range but I can tell you right now, teens aren't out here saying "effing" or calling each other "b" and "a-hole", or saying "freaking". No one says "freaking".

The setting was interesting enough, though being so isolated, you would expect a little bit more interaction and knowledge about other patients, even those that aren't part of the immediate friend group. There was none of that. It felt like the only people who existed in the hospital were the two nurses and three main characters. It made it all a little less real, as well as the not-so-strict rules, one kid being a child-prodigy chef, etc. And why, oh, WHY did they try to include a flashback/memory about dressing up as ghosts and visiting the dementia ward? Not only was it incredibly unfunny, I found it hard to believe that kids who were in a similar situation would do such a thing to others.

All in all, would not recommend and would not reread.

The only redeeming sections of the novel were the one tragic moment that is upsetting to anyone no matter how it's written (no spoilers), and the moment at the very end. The rest just felt forced, unreal, and almost like a too-late attempt to jump on John Green's hype. I am cringing saying that, but it just all felt wrong. There is potential, so I hope to see something more in the future but I don't think I'll be trying anything else by this author. ( )

Really great book. I am definitely trying more by the author--I like how she writes. Very authentic. I can't wait to see the movie, good or bad. ( )
