The character, the little boy, is believable and realistic. Every child fears something and in his case, holes are his biggest fear. Clogging the drain to the bathtub and putting the baby seat on top on the toilet to shrink the size of the toilet seat hole, is his way of conquering his fear. He makes an exception that peeks do not bother him because he can see things through them. This allows the child reader to understand that it is ok to be scared of something and that making possible exceptions and finding something you are comfortable with, can help diminish ones fear. Secondly, the point of view, written in first person also increases the power of the message. "But if holes are fixed, or plugged, or smaller, they don't scare me." The child reader will feel as if this little boy is talking directly to them about his fear and what he does to overcome them. The impact of using first person rather than third is that the story is more personal. ( ) "Holes and Peaks" by Ann Jonas is about a young girl that is afraid of holes. She does not like holes because she cannot see through them and they are unknown. The girl like peeks though because she can see through them. It is an interesting story because of the strange metaphors that can be concluded. It would be a good book to teach young children because it is an articulation of a fear. Children should be encouraged to articulate fears for the purpose of overcoming them eventually. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
