Another book from Jerome but which, unfortunately, lacks the sparkle of his "Three Men" books. In this book, Jerome talks about a pilgrimage from England to Oberammergau to see the passion play. As such, the book might be interesting for people interested in Bavarian history. ( )

A description of Jerome's trip to the Oberammagau passion play in the 19th century. Like all of his books it is very well observed, entertaining and full of humour anecdotes. Again, like Three Men in a Boat, much of the observation seems very up-to-date, despite the fact that he is commenting on humanity more than a century ago. Particularly striking is that, in the midst of humour, he includes a very moving account of the play itself.

Like "Three Men in a Boat", this is a story of one of Jerome K. Jerome's gentlemanly adventures. It is, sadly, not so great a work as the former, but it is still quite funny, with much of the same style.

The 1982 Alan Sutton edition is a good one to read the story in - it is blessed with reasonably large type for the story, chapter titles, and chapter subtitles, and it includes a fine selection of illustrations interspersed with the story. ( )
