Oh, K. Webster, what have you done to us this time around? I mean, yeah, we get a lot of books from you that mess with our minds and that are dark, but this one definitely qualifies as both. I went through parts of this book not quite sure if I should like Cole or hate Cole or hate to like him. I always knew I hated Alan.

Natalie has been living with her brutal cousin Alan for 4 years. He's spent all those years torturing and abusing her. She's just counting down the days until she turns 21 and she can get away from him. Only 36 more to go. But on that day, things start happening that change her life drastically.

Cole Heart was a SEAL and was held for months and months at the hands of a crazed female terrorist, who tortured him and ended up killing his whole team, except for him. Ten years later, he's still dealing with the fallout of being held and tortured for several months at hands of Anta. Now he's suffering from PTSD and all kinds of other problems, which cause him to do things like stalking women. Women like Natalie, who he then abducts.

Really, this story blew me away. It kept me on the edge and made me wonder what was going to happen next, and if things would blow up, so to speak. Cole and Natalie are fascinating characters and have a lot of depth and facets, which K. Webster does so very well. Great book. It will definitely be one I have to read a lot. ( )

There is a reason that this author is synonymous with dark and taboo. This book is just one example of that. This book hurt to read in parts but it also had me turning the pages to want to discover what was going to happen. That is a sign of a good book. ( )
