Beezus and Ramona (1955)

My first audio book. Stockard Channing does an excellent job.

I can't recall reading this one when I was a kid but I know I read it. I want much older than Ramona when I did which is probably why I don't recall reading it. Boy is Ramona a pest. She reminded me too much of my three younger sisters and how they got away with everything. So I had great sympathy for Beezus. The party was probably the most horrifyingly entertaining part of the book.

It's going to be a bit before I start the next book in the series. ( )

I suppose that it's possible for an older sister to feel guilt because of not loving her younger sibling all the time, but it doesn't ring any bells. Now feeling inadequate for not receiving praise for something the little darling does, yep, that one hits. The resolutions are a bit overly sugared. ( )

I Loved seeing the movie and reading the book, this would be a great chapter book to read to students because of the relationship adventures and hardships the sisters go through together.

Realistic Fiction - Family Relationships

This Beverly Cleary book is about two sisters who couldn't more more unlike each other. It follows their adventures and hardships together. Although they disagree on many things and Ramona is more like an annoying bug, Beezus learns that her little sister is just trying to be herself.

I thought that this book was a great representation of how siblings don't get along but at the end of the day we're stuck with them so we might as well try to make the best of it. This book would be great for elementary students because it is relatable and easy to understand the two very different characters.
