Mary Arden has lived a pampered and popular life; she has friends, parties, clothes and a worry free life it would seem. She even has a sought-after guy as her boyfriend, Brooke Haven. Everyone expects her to eventually marry him and Mary's mother considers it a done deal. But Mary feels she wants a change in her life and isn't so sure about everyone's future plans for her and Brooke. She upsets everyone when she runs away to the country town of Arden to take over the dear home of her departed grandmother. As she goes she wonders if she will fit in there and be welcomed. She will quickly find this place to be home for her and is welcomed by all, especially a certain man named Laurie. But the good life will be short lived for Mary, when she is called back to her mother's suddenly. There will be misunderstandings, confusion and deceit that will try to break apart the feelings that have just begun between Laurie and Mary. But in the end God will prevail and love will find a way to bring these two together forever.

I have always enjoyed this author, and she hardly ever disappoints me with her stories, where right and wrong are so clearly defined, and where the author is not ashamed of the gospel. She writes wholesome stories that "contain adventure, romance, and the heartwarming triumphs of people faced with the problems of life and love". ( )
