Gina is a wedding planner, and Ford is a detective - pretty standard rom-com fare. Her family is involved with the Mafia, and Ford is investigating. He becomes involved with Gina when she finds a body in her attic. It really is a pretty typical romance, so I should like it more, right? Wrong. First of all, I found out the meaning of Butterface (I had no idea). Gina has a big nose, but the author repeatedly points out how ugly Gina is. I found that distasteful. I get it. But Ford didn't seem to see it as an issue, so while keep hammering on it. My bigger issue was that Gina seemed a bit desperate and dumb. Ford tells her he must move in with her to protect her from possible murderers, even though the body in her attic died over ten years before. There were other examples where Gina just seems to accept improbable events, even though she's smart enough to run her own successful business. So, this was mostly a fail for me. I never love Avery Flynn's books but I do always quite enjoy them. They are perfect beach or holiday books. I really enjoy how her characters are not standard but instead are quirky and unique. I like he storylines a lot but I do feel like they wrap up rather quickly. All and all they are solid books that rarely disappoint. Gina is a wedding planner and Ford is a police detective. They get put on a kiss cam at a wedding and their romance goes from there. Gina is supposed to be "ugly" and that point is driven home over and over. I wasn't able to get a truly good picture of her in my head from the book's description of her. The only thing I got was that she had a big nose and her eyes were also large. Ford was portrayed as a hunky gift to the female species. Now, I did actually like Ford. He was attracted to Gina from the start and let others know he didn't appreciate their treatment of her. There are some lack of communication issues that I'm not a fan of in this book, but overall I didn't mind it. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Belaboring points drags any plot down. To repeatedly focus on physical features over which one has no control is cruel. If it’s crucial to the plot, mention it once and move on- readers have brains and can remember and process information. His speech at 77% in is nice but we’ve been bludgeoned with too much abuse by then.
Any reader who has similar features that are being mocked will be turned off by the repetitive cruelty of diluting one’s worth to something that they did not create. I know I cringe whenever a female character is mocked for having a mustache. ( )
