I get where she was going but it was just so over the top that it was hard to take seriously. I loved her idea of doing short stories about everyday challenges modern day women face. Unfortunately, the transformations were so whimsical that it was hard to really look at the issue she was trying to represent which were strong enough on their own. I love Ahern's writing but this just didn't work for me. I appreciate what she was trying to do here but this just fell flat for me and seemed very superficial at best. Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for gifting me a copy of this book. All opinions are my own. This book contains 30 very short stories about women facing challenges which, to me, read like fairy tales since most of them were unrealistic. In each story, the woman was referred to as "the woman." Other characters had a name but the protagonist did not. Each story dealt with "the woman's" feelings in a particular situation. I could relate to some, but others felt strange to me so it was hard to relate to that particular woman. I felt the author was trying to empower women by making the stories humorous as well as thought-provoking but sometimes I was at a loss. I won this book in Bookreporter's Spring Preview's contest in exchange for my honest opinion. Looks like I'm in the minority here (at least for now). I absolutely loved this book. I found the stories to be intriguing, often funny. I think the author added a little twist to so many issues facing women -- by taking expressions like "falling apart" or "pigeon-holing" literally, she is able to show the absurdity of some of our social beliefs and/or explain in a unique way the everyday dilemmas of life. Very imaginative. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"Cecelia Ahern gives us thirty stories, all titled 'The Woman Who...', that capture the different facets of women's lives. Humorous, moving and poignant, the stories capture the moments the characters are overwhelmed by guilt, confusion, frustration, intimidation, exhaustion the private moments when they feel the need to roar"--Provided by publisher.
