"LAPD Lieutenant Milo Sturgis is a fine homicide detective, but when he needs to get into the mind of a killer, he leans on the expertise of his best friend, the brilliant psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware. While Sturgis has a knack for piecing together the details of a crime, Delaware can decipher the darkest intents driving the most vicious of perpetrators. And there's no better place for the doctor's analytical skills to shine than a rowdy hall full of young men and women intoxicated on life and lust . . . and suddenly faced with the specter of death. Summoned to a run-down former strip joint, Delaware and Sturgis find themselves crashing a wild Saints and Sinners-themed wedding reception. But they're not the only uninvited guests. A horrified bridesmaid has discovered the body of a young woman, dressed to impress in pricey haute couture and accessorized with a grisly red slash around her neck. What's missing is any means of identification, or a single partygoer who recognizes the victim. The baffled bride is convinced the stranger snuck in to sabotage her big day--and the groom is sure it's all a dreadful mistake. But Delaware and Sturgis have a hundred guests to question, and a sneaking suspicion that the motive for murder is personal. Now they must separate the sinners from the saints, the true from the false, and the secrets from those keeping them. The party's over--and the hunt for whoever killed it is on"--… (altro)

One of the Alex Delaware series, The Wedding Guest pairs Alex and Lt. Milo Sturgis trying to solve the murder of a young woman at a wedding reception. No one recognizes her, and there's no identification, so it takes a while (and several more murders) for them to solve the case.
I've been reading through this series piecemeal, but Mr. Kellerman never fails to put together a good mystery and an entertaining read. This was another such, and I enjoyed it immensely. ( )

The Wedding Guest is number 34 in a very long running series and Jonathan Kellerman does not disappoint.

Kellerman has consistently shown that you can have a successful series without overdeveloping the main characters or having them continually overthink everything with most of the action taking place in the mind of the main character such as Cornwell’s Scarpetta and unfortunately more recently MacDiarmid’s Hill & Jordan.

A good blend of detective work and Delaware’s psychological insights into the mind and the motive of the killer. Of course there is the usual repetitive rounds of eating, interviewing witnesses, LA traffic jams and Delaware solving the case via Google but overall a good solid book from Kellerman. ( )

I haven't read any of Jonathan Kellerman's books before. I will read more. So, of course, neither have I read the thirty-three preceding Alex Delaware thrillers. I will read more.

It wasn't five-star perfect, however. One character seemed to have aged about fifteen years within two pages. Probably a typo, but one that should have been picked up, along with instances of the very irritating misuse of the apostrophe: I get very irritated when they are used to pluralise. Again, something that should have been spotted in proofreading.

Nevertheless, this is a good crime thriller that has you ping-ponging between all the characters wondering on whom to hang the guilty label, as Alex Delaware, a child psychologist and consultant to the L.A. police, and his detective ally, Detective Milo Sturgis, seek to find who killed a young girl at a wedding.

I enjoyed being kept on my toes, as well as the rapport and banter between Alex and Milo, testament to their comfortable, long-standing relationship. I was especially impressed by the fact that not once did I feel at sea for not having read any of the forerunners.

I'm now off to add thirty-three books to my Amazon wishlist. ( )

While there's nothing particularly unusual in this installment, it does feel a bit labored and more far-fetched than usual. ( )
