Intense book. Sad. Recommend it. ( ) This was a heartwarming story of an unlikely friendship that develops between Murray McBride, a grumpy centenarian and a 10-year-old boy, Jason Cashman, who has a failing heart. Neither expects to live much longer but when Murray decides to become Jason's Big Brother, a wonderful bond grows as Murray is determined to help him achieve the five wishes he has on his bucket list. While the story made me smile and cry, I didn't think it was as good as "A Man Called Ove" or "The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett". These two novels had more depth, humour and poignancy than "The Five Wishes of Mr Murray McBride". However, it was still a sweet read. Great novel. Easy reading but a deep subject. At 100 years old, Murray McBride has outlived everyone he's ever loved. But when he meets Jason Cashman, a 10-year-old boy with a terminal illness, Murray may learn something about finding meaning in life as he helps his young friend fulfill his last wishes.
#BlackRoseWriting #HumanConnections #LifeWorthLiving #Bravery #FiveWishes Superbly written book that shines a literary magnifying glass on age, youth, loneliness, choices in life, sorrow, regret, greatness, determination, death, and what makes life worth living. Mr. McBride is an elderly man who is tired of living, finds no purpose in it, and plans to stop the whole thing. Then he meets a very ill, brashly optimistic young man who has, in spite of his probable brief future, visions of Greatness, and a driving need to quickly accomplish his short list of necessary lifetime achievements. Highly recommend. Premi e riconoscimenti
With all his family and friends gone, one-hundred-year-old Murray McBride is looking for a reason to live. He finds it in Jason Cashman, a ten-year-old boy with a terminal heart defect and a list of five things he wants to do before he dies. Together, they race against the limited time each has left, ticking off wishes one by one. Along the way, Murray remembers what it's like to be young, and Jason fights for the oppotunity to grow old. But when tragedy strikes, their worlds are turned upside-down, and an unexpected gift is the only thing that can make Jason's final wish come true. -- from back cover.
