"New York Times and #1 Sunday Times bestselling author and "brilliant storyteller" (Shelf Awareness, starred review) Lisa Jewell weaves another suspenseful page-turner about a shocking murder in a picturesque and well-to-do English town, perfect for fans of Big Little Lies. Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, England. It's the sort of place where doctors and lawyers and old-money academics live. It's not the sort of place where people get stabbed in the back thirty times with a kitchen knife in their own homes. Someone must have seen something. Newlywed Joey Mullen, for example, recently returned from four years working in Ibiza. She and her husband Alfie are eager to find a place of their own in her hometown. But Joey finds herself distracted by the man next door, Tom Fitzwilliam. He's the principal of the local high school, twice her age, and devastatingly attractive. What starts as an innocent infatuation soon escalates into fixation, and before long, Joey can't keep her eyes off of Tom. Or the principal's son, Freddie, who dreams of working as a spy, and has been developing his surveillance skills by keeping meticulous logs of the coming and goings in the area. And, as he approaches his fifteenth birthday, his attention--and his lens--are turning more and more towards the local women. Or perhaps single mother Frances Tripp, who has long been convinced she is being stalked. Her teenage daughter Jenna is worried these delusions are signs of her mother's deteriorating mental health, particularly now that her paranoia has found a specific target: Tom Fitzwilliam. Frances is determined to keep an eye on him until she can prove that he is behind her persecution. Twenty years earlier, a schoolgirl writes in her diary, charting her doomed obsession with a handsome young English teacher named Mr. Fitzwilliam. Nobody knows why this horrific murder was committed, but someone in Melville Heights knows who did it. As the community's fearful eyes turn on each other, the question remains: Who else is watching?"--"Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, England. The Short of It:

Twisty and full of surprises.

The Rest of It:

Melville Heights is one of those pristine English neighborhoods with brightly painted houses and manicured landscaping. Newly married Joey Mullen and her husband are invited to move in with her brother and his wife. Her brother and wife are expecting their first baby and could probably use the help down the line. Although Joey loves being close to her brother, she also feels like their company is not wanted and feels out of place at times.

In the same neighborhood is a good looking man who happens to be the head at the local school. Tom Fitzwilliams has this sure way of carrying himself and Joey finds herself looking forward to their run-ins as innocent as they seem, until they aren’t so innocent anymore and she can’t ignore this feeling of being watched. Tom has his own family but Joey doesn’t know much about them except that his son spends a lot of time at home and doesn’t seem to have many friends of his own.

Then, there is a murder. A woman is found dead and the details of the event slowly unfold and become more complicated as various parts of the story are revealed. There is so much more to this story than just the murder. The dynamics of family, teens, married couples and the past all collide in a satisfying way. At times I could see where the story was headed, but in the end, there are surprises that I did not see and it made for a very enjoyable read.

Ha ha this was nicely done. It was one of those books that made you think twice about assuming because you were always wrong. I totally expected it play out differently. I think this is one of Lisa Jewell’s best books yet. ( )

Loved the book. Loved the audio. My third Lisa Jewell book and it read most suspenseful. This one played out much like a who done it. Read this story til the end and answer "would I have done the same, possibly?". In true fashion, Lisa leaves us a little tid bit in closing. ( )

This book was amazing and everything I hoped it would be after reading Then She Was Gone . This was the second Lisa Jewell book I have read and she has yet to disappoint. This book is a Suspenseful mystery thriller and it does not fall short of that . I love character driven books and that is exactly what these are . Someone gets murdered in their kitchen , in a home that is for the wealthier of individuals. As you follow 6 families , living in the same city you find out how they are all connected to the murdered individual making guesses along the way .

****Maybe Spoilers*****

There is Joey who is a newly wed and moves back in with her doctor brother in a home she looked at as a young girl and never thought they would live in . Her brothers wife Rebecca who is pregnant is very kept to herself and works from home . Joey and Rebecca do not have a relation ship and Joey questions why her brother even married her. Two doors down live Tim , Nicole and their son Freddie . Tim is a Headmaster that is new to town , married to a significantly younger past student of his, and his son is an introvert that watches , and documents the ongoing of the neighborhood without anyone noticing - well besides Jenna's Struggling mom ( Mental Health Issues ). Tim is super good looking and works at a private school where Jenna and Bess attend ( best friends that Freddie watches ) . Bess has a school girl crush on Tim , but she was not the first student to have one in his teaching lifetime . Who else has had a crush on Tim ? What has he been accused of ? Why did Rachel , Joey's sister in law and Jacks pregnant loving wife beg the old lady to sell her the home two doors down from Tim ? Is Jenna's "crazy" mom onto Tim ? Is Nicole really Tim's Loving innocent wife ? Is Joey really in love with her new husband after knowing him only a few short months in total ....

This book had me guessing who did it with every turn of the page - and at the end of the book I did not even see it coming .

to reiterate , another FANTASTIC Novel . Well down Lisa Jewell . This is a MUST read. ( )

This is the second book by Lisa Jewell that I have read and it was even better than the last. I recommend her highly for anyone that enjoys a little mystery in any story. I like that she focuses on the bn people and circumstances telling the story building up to the crime, murder etc. Plus she always puts a little twist in at the end. ( )
