This is a slightly-above-average thriller novel about a Retired Sniper With A Terrible Secret who is drawn back into the past he left behind by the Evil Sniper With An Agenda.

If considered against Stephen Hunter's novels that devote themselves to loving attention to the sniper's craft, this falls short, unfortunately.

One aspect I don't like about this genre is the amount of physical punishment the characters are able to take. Beatings, burns, gunshot wounds, and the like wind up being inconvenient obstacles that the plucky characters overcome with handy outdoors skills or through grit and determination. ( )

Not only do I have a soft spot for sniper books, this was the first one I read. It has a very cool protagonist who's trying to set aside his past as a sniper to be a good father, a fabulous villian who's smart and mean, and well written action. ( )
