Reading Frank Miller's first Martha Washington story, I couldn't help but see the parallels in the fantastic dystopian future written by Warren Ellis in his Transmetropolitain series. In Ellis's work, however, the gonzo journalist does all the work; in Miller's, a larger sociological character is presented in the form of an African-American kid from "The Green" (the still-thriving and infamous Cabrini Green in Chicago), who had the cards stacked against her from the beginning. As in both stories, a fuck-you attitude in the face of authority is what it takes to get things done. In contrast to Ellis's book, Miller's work quickly turns to massive bloodshed, and in doing so somewhat loses the thread of its social commentary. I would assume that he picks up the thread in later works, however, and I'll be back to give you more info as I pick them up. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
