As it generally follows and substantiates the Indian position, it is obviously music to the ears of Indian readers. The book also gives mini-histories of related issues and events in Pakistan, Burma, Nepal, Bhutan, the Sikkim issue, Indian Ocean geopolitics, and so on. The hefty list of references will help the reader follow up on particular aspects. One implication of the India-centric approach is that it does not contribute much to an appreciation of the opponent's motivations, and thus ends up with reiterating the stalemate with only a military stand-off to look forward to. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
The 1962 war between India and China was not about a disputed border. It was the result of China's desire to become the leader of the 'Third World' - and, at a time when China was barely recovering from the disastrous Great Leap Forward and its architect, Mao Zedong, was discredited, to unite different factions within the Chinese leadership against an outside enemy: India. China won the war, became the main voice of revolutionary movements in the Third World-andMao Zedong was back in power. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
