"It's going to sound silly and romantic," Pea said.
"Which means I'll be able to understand perfectly. Tell me," Venus coaxed.

Okay, so...this...I...well, it certainly wasn't good, and it was essentially total nonsense at times, but damn it, she got me again. This was reckless and funny - it was at its best when it didn't take itself too seriously. Unfortunately, you can't not take yourself seriously when talking about true love and destiny and dying dramatically in the fire, so...two stars.

Venus herself was great, and her and Pea's friendship was my favourite part - I'm so very pleased they were all still friends at the end, doing their adorable domestic thing and havin' barbecues and being sweet. (Still unaffected by the dull carbon-copy male love interests.) Pea was very sweet, and I loved her bumbling around and finding her confidence.

That was the core of the book to me - there was a lot of very sweet moments with Venus proving her worth to her and what she should expect from herself and from any man that tries to get with her. But there was just an entire lack of connection between the romance(s) and Pea's arc...as well as Venus's. Their respective matches didn't really contribute to helping or healing their troubles. Or challenging them. Or doing anything. Like, what was Griffin really supposed to give Venus & her insecurities that no other mortal guy on the planet could? Exchange him with anyone and you'd get the same story. Vulcan's almost felt backwards, given how much it focused on him being an awkward nobody as well, but that didn't really matter for them either...?

I dunno. Shuffle the cast any which way and nothing would have changed. It completely bypassed its own heart & moral, throwing all that out at the end for some weird unearned true love nonsense.

Kinda disappointed by this one even if I liked Goddess of Spring a fair amount, but I seem to be in good company with others who really like the Goddess Summoning series. Perhaps I'll try another, because they're honestly wonderfully consumable and fun and easy reads - and I love that Greek myth flavour of course! But while this one was very fun and comfortably silly, I was just bored with the romance entirely - and the romance was essentially all there was to it. ( )

Everyone and their brother has heard me ramble on about these books for months and months. I decided to do a re-read in honor of the newest release and because I just love them so much. I love the idea of the Gods playing on Earth again, like they used to in mythology. I know they cause all kinds of havoc but that is what makes a great story.

I love Pea, she is so unassuming and I heart her with Vulcan (the God of Fire, btw). He is so fiery and just wants to settle down and she is so sedate and wants the same. They are perfect together. I do say that Ms. Cast does settle everything in nice bows in her books but they usually all have an interesting twist and the Gods can do whatever the want. *shrug*

I love these books, they are one of my favorite series (top 5) and if you haven't read them, you need to. OH, and there is an extreme amount of heat coming out of the pages, she writes steamy steamy stuff! ( )

If I had to rank my favorites in this series, this one would come in at about fourth. The goddess of love gets stuck in present time USA, until she fulfills Pea's desire to be happy. I wasn't very into the romances in this book, Griffin and Vulcan were meh characters for me. What I really liked about this was watching Pea and Aphrodite's friendship grow. ( )

As a plus, there is only the vaguest sort of formula the author uses. It's not just the same book over and over again with different characters, but each follows a different standard romance plot (of course; it's romance!).

In this particular book, I kept feeling that involving Hera was unnecessary, and it was easy to see from the beginning how this was going to end. I also felt it was unnecessary to have the heroine embarrassed that much that many times. I didn't find her humiliation funny and started skimming as of the second time it happened.

I think this is the last one in the series for me. ( )
