The handsome, rakish heir to a dukedom, Lord Roland Northbridge Wildeâ??known to his friends as Northâ??left England two years ago, after being jilted by Miss Diana Belgrave. He returns from war to find that he's notorious: polite society has ruled him "too wild to wed."

Diana never meant to tarnish North's reputation, or his heart, but in her rush to save a helpless child, there was no time to consider the consequences of working as a governess in Lindow Castle. Now everyone has drawn the worst conclusions about the child's father, and Diana is left with bittersweet regret.

When North makes it clear that he still wants her for his own, scandal or no, Diana has to fight to keep from losing her heart to the man whom she still has no intention of marrying.

Yet North is returning a hardened warriorâ??and this is one battle he's determined to win.

4 * Enjoyable historical romance, did not quite like It as much as the first in this series ( )

2.5 stars rounded up. I didn't care for this heroine. She's hopelessly ignorant of some basic stuff, and that doesn't really end up changing even by the end, but that's not entirely her fault, so I could move past that alone. But also she's impulsive and doesn't think before acting. And generally makes some pretty shoddy choices. So it ended up being a considerable pile of flaws really. Also I found the hero's feelings believable, but didn't really connect with hers so she came off kind of wishy-washy up until the very end. He deserved someone who loved him back more. The heroine is very opposed to anything that could be seen an charity, but she was fine lying to get her post (even when it would likely hurt an innocent person's reputation and emotionally manipulate many people), and then we see repeatedly that she is not even very good at it! So the fact they allow her to stay on and pay her a generous wage is already charity really, and she never realizes it. So it made all her other protestations, sometimes unnecessary to begin with, ring king of 'off'. Her best quality is being nurturing I suppose, but several of the best examples of that behavior, directed toward the hero, were motivated by guilt, so they didn't seem as genuine to her. Besides the heroine, I didn't like how the hero kept destroying her clothing just because he didn't like it on her. That wasn't his place and was disrespectful of her. I could get over a single instance, being thoughtless or something, but he kept at it and never did seem to see the problem. Kinda on the low end of acceptable, but it wasn't a slog to get through of anything. ( )

Well, I am now an inveterate and unrepentant fan of the Wildes. This one seemed so ludicrous in premise (because really, aristocrats are not known for taking in their bastards and their bastard's mum under any circumstances), but it was so satisfying to read these characters and watch them sort out all the tangles. Nope, not her kid, or his, for that matter. Yep, lots of lovely new Wildes of all ages to meet and enjoy. Great fun!

Advacned reader's copy provided by Edelweiss. ( )

This book is dedicated to my husband, Alessandro, because the simple joy of knowing he is mine underlies every happy line I write.
