These little books are so much fun, especailly to read to little ones who love dragons. The movie franchise is not exactly like the original series, but you can see where those movies made certain decisions to keep to the origial versus where they decided to do their own thing. If you've only seen the movies, I do recommend giving the series itself a read, especially if you want a look into how adapations across different media works. There are some mature themes in this series (nothing traumatizing or inappropriate, more: how to think about both sides of an argument or serious issue in a world where polerization is destroying communities) told in a way that young ones can understand, and even relate to in such an endearing way. This is a lovely story about breaking social norms, being true to yourself, and treating all creatures with respect and kindness. There is so much to say about this series and the franchise it inspired, but not enough words on the planet to fully capture its value. ( )
