Catalogue, the 1936 novel by Oklahoma native George Milburn, chronicles the events in a small Oklahoma town following the arrival of the Montgomery Ward and Sears Roebuck catalogues on the same August day. The New York Times book review of September 20, 1936, called it "a hard, raucous, accurate series of tales and sketches." More than 70 characters are portrayed in this work which is considered to be the best of the three novels by Milburn, long noted as one of the premier short story writers in American letters. Life in the 1930's was far different from that lived by the majority of Americans today. Nostalgic as this novel may appear, the incisive writing reavels human nature as it has been always, laying bare the best and the worst in the human heart.
