The forgotten granddaughter of one of New York's wealthiest men is reunited with her family just as she comes of age-and once she's had a glimpse of their glittering world, she refuses to let it go without a fight. When Laila Lawrence becomes an orphan at twenty-three, the sudden loss unexpectedly introduces her to three glamorous cousins from New York who show up unannounced at her mother's funeral. The three siblings are scions of the wealthy family from which Laila's father had been estranged long before his own untimely demise ten years before. Two years later, Laila has left behind her quiet life in Grosse Point, Michigan to move to New York City, landing her smack in the middle of her cousins' decadent world. As the truth about why Laila's parents became estranged from the family patriarch becomes clear, Laila grows ever more resolved to claim what's rightfully hers. Caught between longing for the love of her family and her relentless pursuit of the lifestyle she feels she was unfairly denied, Laila finds herself reawakening a long dead family scandal-not to mention setting off several new ones-as she becomes further enmeshed in the lives and love affairs of her cousins. But will Laila ever, truly, belong in their world?… (altro)

The best description for this book in 10 words or less:
"Woman meets extended family and gets sucked into their problems."

When I was reading the description of this novel, it seemed really interesting. Who wouldn't want to read a novel about a small-town girl who had a family that was powerful and popular in the big city? It had a pauper to prince kind of feel to it as the main character, Laila, has never known the lavish New York City life that her cousins live.

I felt like this novel fell short of what it could have been. I really struggled to finish this novel, but I persevered so that I can give you an honest review.

The drama in the novel seemed super superficial, and you can see the dark path that Laila goes down just by being associated with her extended family. I feel like that was a realistic depiction of what fame and money can do to someone. Since I have been to New York City, I know there is so much you can do there, but the lack of setting made it difficult to focus since it made the novel seem so bland. I've read similar novels that were far more entertaining and better written than She Regrets Nothing.

This book was completely insane but definitely entertaining.

Laila doesn’t know about the extremely wealthy side of her family until her mother dies. Laila’s cousins, who she has never met, showed up to the funeral to try to get to know her.

Two years later, Laila is freshly divorced and living in NYC. Her rich cousins have taken her in. She’s sharing a home and a closet with Nora and Liberty has given her a job.

Instead of being grateful to have gained supportive and kind family members, Laila is jealous. She is incredibly entitled, thinking it’s not fair that her cousins grew up with so much wealth and she grew up with nothing.
All she knew was that her father and his family had cut ties. Because if this, Laila feels like she missed out on everything that was her birth right.

So, she’s a woman on a mission trying to get the money that she feels is rightfully hers.
She’ll either get it from her family or she’ll find a man to provide the lifestyle she wants.

Boy is Laila unlikable. Wow. She is awful. If there’s a depth you think she won’t sink to...well...

Normally I kind of need the main character to be at least somewhat likable to enjoy a story. But that was different here. Although the end of the book felt lacking, and despite the fact that I was never rooting for Laila, I still enjoyed the book.

Young Adult books are usually a hit and miss for me. Sometimes I love them; sometimes I am indifferent with them. Unfortunately, this one is the latter.

I had seen this book all over social media for months. Because it seemed to be everywhere I turned, I decided to scoop it up. It sounded intriguing enough.

I really struggled with this one. It was a bit much for me. A little too exaggerated, a little too immature considering the ages of the characters. There were parts that kept me going, but the character development ruined it for me. None of quite fit.

I am all for scandals and a twist here and there... I saw the twist coming from the gate. The scandals were a bit over the top for me. I just couldn't get invested in this book like I would have liked. There was too much ridiculousness going on from all directions.

Those that like the over dramatic, drawn out scandals of the rich, this book might be right up your alley. It definitely wasn't a book for me. ( )

Do not, I repeat, do not eff with Laila. This girl is cray, cray. Hellbent on a mission towards the way to reach her goal. Be rich, like she should have been in the first place! I felt all kinds of sorry for Laila at the beginning. Yeah, she will do that to you. Her naivety and wonderment, so endearing.

A cousin of a major wealthy NYC family who has been denied her due. That would be the huge share of the wealth that was kept from her due to her deceased parents being ostracized from the family when Laila was very young. She regrets nothing is a great title for this book which I truly discovered at the end.

I loved how the author gave me an insight into what the character's are thinking. It really added to my enjoyment, a lot.

Lesson learned for me: You can have all the money in the world and it won't keep you from being cray, cray.

Sooo many times I wanted to leave Crazyland, but someone would play the crazy card again . . . and I was sucked right back in.

Great read, had major feelings for the characters (good or bad, always works for me).

With the death of her mother, Laila Lawrence is left an orphan at the age of 23. Laila resides herself to a middle class life in the midwest, engaged to a dentist and working as a hygienist. However, when three unknown Lawrence cousins show up at Laila's mother's funeral, Laila discovers an entire family, lifestyle and family feud that have been hidden from her. Her cousin, Liberty makes a connection with Laila. With her mother's death Laila discovers the reason for the feud and decides to change her life. Two years after becoming an orphan, Laila divorces her husband and sets out for New York City. Laila is staying with her cousin Nora and soon discovers the affluent Lawrence lifestyle, living off of a trust fund, partying every night and meeting billionaires, Laila begins to find her place among the family she believes she should have been part of all along. Although, as her star rises, Laila becomes entangled in other schemes and plots that may set off yet another Lawrence family rift when all she wanted to do was fit in.

She Regrets Nothing is an interesting twist on a modern glam Cinderella where Cinderella uses her family for all it's worth and Prince Charming is anything but. Laila intrigued me from the beginning and even now, I don't really know how I feel about her. As Laila maneuvered her way through the Lawrences, my feelings for her see-sawed from 'you go girl!' to asking myself if she had a mental problem. Although, as Laila states, she is playing the part of the chameleon; and she does it amazingly well. I do wish that I got to see more of the true Laila, but perhaps we got to see her in the end. It was Liberty that captured my full attention, I loved her authenticity and the way she both accepted and declined parts of her expected role within society. The writing skillfully balanced mystery, suspense, complicated relationships and family drama against the backdrop of Manhattan's posh social scene. I was probably as awed as Laila at some of the clubs and people in it, I was equally amazed when I found out that Mustique Island was a real place. I became even more pulled into the story near the end as things began to fall apart and I wondered how Laila would keep her carefully crafted life afloat.

This book received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. ( )
