As with many Poe poems, the mood grows darker the farther down you read: silver bells of youth, golden bells of marriage, brazen bells of tragedy, and iron bells of death. I appreciate the more upfront symbolism that I could understand in my first reading, and I admit to being fond of bells in of the object itself. However, there's nothing here I'm too fascinated with, so overall I mildly like the poem. ( )
