If you like vampires and enjoy a character you can empathize this, I suggest you give this book a try. This book got very close being a DNF for me, but I made myself push through and finish it, playing it on speakers through my house while cleaning and listening to it through headphones on plane rides. I get why this book (and likely its series) is supposed to be cute, but it falls entirely flat for me. I didn't find the main character, his girlfriend, or any of his friends all that endearing. The set of collected short stories about them were mostly predictable, and there's little at this point that could convince me to read the further books in it. Some people are born boring. Some live boring. Some even die boring. Fred managed to do all three, and when he woke up as a vampire, he did so as a boring one. Timid, socially awkward, and plagued by self-esteem issues, Fred has never been the adventurous sort. One fateful night-different from the night he died, which was more inconvenient than fateful-Fred reconnects with an old friend at his high school reunion. This rekindled relationship sets off a chain of events thrusting him right into the chaos of the parahuman world, a world with chipper zombies, truck driver wereponies, maniacal necromancers, ancient dragons, and now one undead accountant trying his best to "survive." Sadly, the second one has the mc blundering unprepared through awkward situations and putting his foot in it every step of the way.
I suffer from extreme vicarious embarrassment which makes even just reading situations like that extremely uncomfortable so I didn't want to continue.
There was nothing wrong with the book so far. I would give the first story alone 3.5-4 stars but I won't rate this one as I am not in a position to judge the rest because of its kind of humour.
