Unfortunately, war brakes out and his family is forced to leave for America. In America, Iskander begins to get settled, but feels that something is missing still. He goes around asking his entire Family, until his grandfather takes him into the mountains.I think this book would be useful for children who have recently moved to the United States. I also think this book could be useful in a lesson surrounding immigration and those affected by war in their home countries. ( ) A boy named Iskander moves from his homeland because of war. He and his family come to America to live but he is having trouble adjusting to this new place. He loved the silence high up in the mountains where he lived with his goats. In this new place, he had cows that chewed grass, but something was missing. His grandfather then takes him up and up a long road where they sit in silence until the sun fades away. At last, Iskander feels the peace he has been looking for in this new place. Iskander lives in land of beauty, surrounded by beautiful silent mountains. When war breaks out, he and his family have to leave everything behind and move to America. Though everyone is happy and safe once again, Iskander knows that there is something very important missing, but just does not know what until his Grandfather helps him to see that what he is missing can still be found even in this new land. The silence of the mountains is a book about a family that lives in a Latin America country. One day the country breaks out into war and the family has to move, to America. Once in America the boy in the family tells everyone in his family that he wants to go home. Everyone then proceeds to give him something that reminds him of their old home. But none of it works. So his grandpa takes his to a place, and….for the rest you will have to read it. This book is a great family book and great for all ages. As a student reading this book, I was taken back to the time when my family moved. Though I did not move to a different country, I did move schools and did not like my new school. But just like the boy someone should me the good part of a new school and I was happy again. As a teacher this book would be great way to show my students how moving to a new place is not as bad as they might think. It is also a good book to use if a new student comes into the classroom. The book could show my students that we should help the student become comfortable with his/her new school. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
