I like this book because it portrays an amicable divorce where both parents are eager and enthusiastic about being involved in Michael's life, and it made me really happy! Mikey lives in Arizona with his mom while his dad lives in Delaware. His dad visits for multiple days at a time, renting a hotel room, and treats Mikey like royalty. They do all kinds of fun, enriching activities, but at the end of the week, dad has to return home. Luckily, Michael's mom and dad discussed him flying up to Delaware this coming summer to visit dad since Mikey is older now. Mikey was ecstatic about flying away on a plane "two thousand miles as the crow flies." ( )

This book tells the story of a young boy, named Michael who lives in Arizona with his mother. His father lives in Delaware and only visits him once a year. In the story, Michael describes his feelings during his father's visit. I loved this book because it's story is very relatable. It's very hard for kids to accept that their parents aren't together and this story helps in some way by at least showing kids that many other children experience the same thing. The boy also seems to have a very good relationship with his father, which shows kids that they can still have a good father-son relationship no matter how far apart they are. The illustrations were beautiful and really add to the story. ( )

My library's edition has a different cover, of the boy sitting on dad's lap reading a book. I like the 'out on a nature hike' one seen here.

Very nice book by an accomplished children's author. People who can relate to the situation of long-distance parenting might tear up. Not preachy, just sweet and real. I personally couldn't relate, however, so I ultimately found it a little bit boring, and so can't honestly rate it higher.

Again, though, great for the right audience & recommended for bibliotherapy and for casual readers who have any connection with the theme. ( )

It was a story about Michael's dad who leave far away from him. It was a good father and son story and for children who got a parent leave in a different place.
