Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. HTML:

New York Times Bestseller

Joining the ranks of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, You Are a Badass, and F*ck Feelings comes this refreshing, BS-free, self-empowerment guide that offers an honest, no-nonsense, tough-love approach to help you move past self-imposed limitations.

Are you tired of feeling fu*ked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unfu*ked version of yourself. "Wake up to the miracle you are," he directs. "Here's what you've forgotten: You're a fu*king miracle of being." It isn't other people that are standing in your way, it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive, it's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

In Unfu*k Yourself, Bishop leads you through a series of seven assertions:

  • I am willing
  • I am wired to win
  • I got this
  • I embrace the uncertainty
  • I am not my thoughts; I am what I do
  • I am relentless
  • I expect nothing and accept everything
  • Lead the life you were meant to haveâ??Unfu*k Yourself.… (altro)

There's nothing new in this self-help "tough love" book. You could read the title "Get out of your head and into your life" and that's the basis for what he's trying to convey. It's short and to the point and I think it would help some people that need a simple book that may push them into a better life. I like way he presents the material. He probably writes like he speaks with a Scottish accent - quick and to the point. It's exactly what my mom and dad would have done years ago.

He says, "Imagine that you're on your deathbed...and you've got only a few hours to live...You never made a change you wanted. You stayed stuck in the same job, the same relationship, the same overweight body until now. the day you die." He goes on to say that while you are healthy, you have a choice to make changes in your life. What is stopping you?

Why is it that you can tell others this same content and yet, if it comes from a book or therapist, it has more meaning? So I'm sending it to my step-daughter. Maybe it will do her some good if only she will read it. ( )

Just another in a line of books that like to use F*ck and Sh*t in their titles. This one, however, is what turned out to be the bridge to Stoicism. From here I started reading Donald J. Robertson, Massimo Pigliucci, Marcus Aurellius, Epictitus, Seneca, etc. ( )

TL;DR - You're in control of your life, stop wasting it.

Basically a 3 hour long motivational speech about how you are your own problem. No real tips or strategies, just him telling you to get your life together. If you're going to read it, get the audio book because Scottish accent is way more motivating than reading to yourself. LOL ( )

The core idea (less thinking, more doing) is pretty solid, but there wasn't enough substance here for an entire book. However, this is a very quick read and definitely a good kick in the pants whenever you feel like you're stuck in a rut. ( )

LOVED this book. I found the author to be extremely honest and I liked how he was. It made me want to get out of the house and make something of myself. Also Ironically funny. ( )
