Since reading Newport’s Deep Work last year, I’ve been working back through some of his other books. He is a thoughtful writer. I find a lot of areas of my life I want to try and reform. I wish I’d have read this one before starting college, but nonetheless, it is a useful book. He’s extremely practical. Some of the ideas are beneficial outside the realm of university, while others not so much. I’m sure a potential college student would read this and feel overwhelmed at all that he or she could be doing, but that is not exactly the point. It’s worth a read to pick up a few ideas and incorporate them into life. While Newport has no faith commitments to any theological worldview, he can be read and incorporated into a biblical lifestyle with great profit. He leaves me with the desire to think more about how I spend my time. As every man is given the same 24 hour days for as long as God allows, he ought to strive to maximize those hours for God’s glory. A good book filled with a lot of quality tips, although it assumes the student is going to be living in a dorm and attending a college out of state or at least out of their hometown. Kind of leaves students who commute to college from home or are still in-town a little in the lurch with some of his suggestions. Still a great book for students looking for some guidance when either about to enter college or having been a college student for a while. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Both my spouse and I wished we had it during our college years, though we agreed that teenage rebelliousness would make it hard to pay attention to. ( )
